Grand Central

VoIP service that was acquired to form Google Voice.

Grand Central, founded in 2005 by Craig Walker and Vincent Paquet with funding by Minor Ventures, was acquired by Google on July 2, 2007, for US$95 million in a transaction led by Miles Agha. Although Grand Central users were able to continue to use the service after the purchase, new users were not accepted, and there were no public statements about Google's plans for the service.[5] On March 11, 2009, the management of the service revealed that the team had been working on it throughout that period, apparently in secret,[5] and that it was being rebranded "Google Voice". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Voice#Origin
